Are you ready to help lead TSF into the future?

14 Years of Fun -- Looking back on my tenure as President of TSF 14 Years of Fun — Looking back on my tenure as President of TSF

Dear TSF Members:

Nearly 14 years ago, five soccer fans who had never met gathered at Soccer Dome America to watch a USA v. Canada friendly that was only available on pay-per-view.  On that night, Triangle Soccer Fanatics moved from an internet mailing list to a true soccer supporters club.

In 2006, when we became an independent supporters club of the Carolina RailHawks, my hope was that I could play a small part in helping the fledgling soccer club at SAS Soccer Park succeed by creating a supporters atmosphere that did not exist when I was a season ticket holder of the Carolina Courage.

A decade later, I think it’s clear we have succeeded in that goal.  There have certainly been ups and downs over the past 10 seasons, but I would never trade the journey, nor the deep friendships I have forged along the way.

Now, with the launch of NCFC and their setting their sights on even bigger ambitions, I believe it’s time for a new leader to take the reins and guide TSF in its grassroots effort to help professional soccer thrive at the highest level in Raleigh-Durham area. I have notified the Board that I do not plan to stand for re-election as your President in the April 2017 officer elections.

Of all the activities we have done with the supporters club, the ones that I am the most proud of is the great community work and charity fundraising that we have accomplished together as well as being named the ISC Philanthropic Supporters Club of the Year in 2015.  Lately, I have felt a strong calling to more fully invest myself in social justice causes and have taken a position in the leadership team of a Raleigh-based nonprofit where I believe I can have an even bigger impact on the lives of citizens here in the Triangle.

Even though I have had tremendous help from some incredibly dedicated officers, board members, and volunteers over the last 14 years, Triangle Soccer Fanatics has often been seen as “my club.” While I may have founded the club, the fact is that this has always been our club and we all have a role to play in how it grows and the direction it takes.

Over the next few weeks, TSF will be hosting a series of vision meetings with the general membership.  We invite all our members to come out to one or more of these meetings and share with us your thoughts on how you would like to see TSF grow and learn more about what you can do to help guide TSF into this bright future.  We are looking for the next wave of officers, and we are hoping some of you might answer that call.

I personally will continue to be a member of Triangle Soccer Fanatics and a season ticket holder of North Carolina FC. I am still interested in serving on the Board and playing an active role in advising the next generation of leaders on how to bring their personal enthusiasm and ambition to the forefront of guiding the grassroots effort that has always been the heart and soul of our organization.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming vision meetings, future tailgates, watch parties, community events, and other supporters activities. I cannot wait to see where the new leadership team will take TSF over the next decade!
