An Open Letter to Bill Peterson
June 5, 2015
Commissioner and Acting Chairperson of the Board of Governors
North American Soccer League
Dear Mr. Peterson:
Triangle Soccer Fanatics (TSF) applauds your swift action to suspend Aaron Davidson from his position as Chairperson of the NASL Board of Governors, along with ceasing all business activities between the league and Traffic Sports as a result of Mr. Davidson, Traffic Sports USA, and Traffic Sports International being implicated in the US Department of Justice FIFA investigation. We also appreciate the statement that the Carolina RailHawks will continue to operate in the ordinary course of business and that the club’s management team will continue to manage the day-to-day operations.
As an independent supporters club of the Carolina RailHawks, TSF remains committed to supporting the players, coaches, and administrative staff of our local organization. However, we still believe further clarification regarding the ownership of the RailHawks franchise is required and specifically what business activities between Traffic Sports and NASL have ceased. From our vantage point, we have observed no shift away from Traffic Sports’ control of our club, nor have you responded to queries to further elaborate on the details of your statement.
Triangle Soccer Fanatics believes it is no longer in the best interest of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Cary community to be affiliated in any way with an ownership group that has pleaded guilty to the criminal offense of wire fraud conspiracy and has been implicated in broad ranging indictments for racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies, among other offenses. We, the members of TSF, season ticket holders of the Carolina RailHawks, and customers of the North American Soccer League call for you to take swift and decisive action to ensure that the Carolina RailHawks are independent of Traffic Sports USA.
We urge the NASL to revoke Traffic’s franchise rights immediately and for the League to assume full control of the Carolina RailHawks on an interim basis until new, permanent, preferably local ownership is found.
TSF would like to offer NASL our support as you seek new ownership of the team. We believe that we are in a unique, independent, and local position to advocate on behalf of the players, coaches, staff, and fans as you search to find an ownership group that shares our vision for the highest levels of both professional soccer and integrity that the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Cary community deserves.
We look forward to seeing the leadership actions that NASL is taking to distance your league and our team from this dark cloud that has descended over us, and we welcome an opportunity to speak with you directly about how we can actively participate in the effort to find new ownership for the Carolina RailHawks.
