Over last year or so, I've been asked many times why I'm so excited about the Carolina RailHawks coming to Cary. After all, our minor league soccer team would never be able to compare to the likes of the EPL or the UEFA Champions League that has now become so readily available to American soccer fans via satellite dish.
There's something about the local nature of football that has always struck me as extremely romantic. While many may follow a super club the likes of Manchester United or Barcelona, most football fans first true love is their local side.
This video I found on YouTube posted by an Irish football supporter does a great job of capturing the difference between local football and international super clubs. While the skill and talent may not be the same between the two, the authenticity of the passion for the local club can never be questioned.
This video does a great job of summing up why I'm so excited about the RailHawks becoming a permanent fixture here in the Triangle.
